It has been more than a year since the coronavirus pandemic has affected people’s lives. This is no different in the field of sport. TheFrench Open could be postponed again due to the unfavourable situation in France.

The French Open is usually the second grand slam of the season. The peak of the clay season is in May/June. In the current year, it worked out to a date between May 23 and June 6, with qualifying set to start a week earlier.

However, this scenario is not at all certain yet. The current situation in France is not good at all and the current arrangements only last until the beginning of May. If they were to be extended, the French Open would have to be postponed.

“We are discussing with the organisers to see if we should change the date so that it does not overlap with other sporting events,” revealed Roxana Maracineanu, the sports minister.

Last year, the French Open was played from 27 September to 11 October. Due to regulations there, only 1,000 people a day were allowed into the venue in the French capital.

The men’s singles was once again dominated by Rafael Nadal, who took on Novak Djokovic in the final. Overall, it was his thirteenth triumph at Roland Garros.

Iga Swiatek of Poland was the most successful on the WTA circuit. Petra Kvitová was the farthest away from our tennis players, as she lost in the semi-finals to the American Sofia Kenin.
