Frances Tiafoe will play in the Laver Cup instead of the injured Isner
Before the upcoming fifth edition of the Laver Cup, the world selection had to make a change in its nomination. Originally, the two-meter long John Isner was expected to participate, but he suffered a wrist injury at the US Open and for the first time the prestigious tennis show will be without him. In London, the experienced American player will be replaced by his younger compatriot.

It is Frances Tiafoe, who also has experience with the tournament. He played in the opening event in Prague five years ago and a year later in Chicago. The twenty-four-year-old tennis player showed a good performance at the recently concluded New York Grand Slam.
On his way to the semi-finals he defeated such names as Schwartzman, Nadal and Rubljov. He was only up against the late champion Carlos Alcaraz. In Monday’s edition of the ATP rankings, Tiafoe moved up to his career high, namely 19th.
Team World captain John McEnroe is aware of the Maryland native’s performance progression. “He has taken his game to a whole new level and has shown that he can compete and win against the best players,” the Laver Cup website quotes the American legend as saying. He also added that Tiafoe’s positive energy can help the whole team.
Taylor Fritz and Jack Sock of the USA, Félix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, Diego Schwartzman of Argentina and Alex de Minaur of Australia make up the rest of the squad still waiting for their first Laver Cup triumph.
The European team, led by Björn Borg, will include Roger Federer of Switzerland, Rafael Nadal of Spain, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, Casper Ruud of Norway, Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece and Andy Murray of Britain. Laver Cup 2022 takes place at London’s O2 Arena from 23-25 September.
