In the early hours of Thursday morning, tennis fans will be treated to a very interesting duel between Frances Tiafoe and Denis Shapovalov. Will the home tennis player confirm his role as the paper favourite?
Frances Tiafoe is a 23-year-old tennis player originally from America. He is currently ranked 52nd in the ATP rankings, but his career high is 29th in February 2019.
In Toronto, the American tennis player has already had to undergo qualifying bouts. However, after winning against his compatriot Wolf, he ran into Ruusuvuori, whom he lost to after sets 1::6 and 4::6.
However, after Sebastian Korda’s withdrawal, Frances Tiafoe finally reached the main stage of the tournament. In the first round, he was able to deal with Japan’s Nishioka relatively smoothly, losing 4: 6 and 3: 6.
On Thursday morning, however, his opponent will be Denis Shapovalov, who will be able to take advantage of his home environment. Moreover, the 22-year-old Canadian is currently one of the ten best tennis players in the world.
For Shapovalov, this will be his first competitive match on a hard surface since the end of March. The last time the Tel Aviv native played in Gstaad, Switzerland, he lost to Vit Kopriva.
So what to bet on? Shapovalov is the paper favourite, having won four out of five duels. Most likely, he will be happy with the victory and also with the promotion to the eighth round.
