Germany surprisingly managed to win Saturday’s friendly match in France 2:0 thanks to a goal from the first minute. They shook off a bit of public criticism, while their opponents confirmed how important Antoine Griezmann is to them.
The Germans took the lead in the first minute, with midfielder Florian Wirtz firing in from distance and giving the goalkeeper no chance. The shot from the seventh second made history for the German national team. No one has ever hit the target so quickly.
Surprisingly, France couldn’t get a shot off until Marcus Thuram missed the space between the three posts in the 20th minute. Two minutes later Kylian Mbappé shot, but just missed the left post of the German goal.
France’s biggest threat came in the 25th minute, this time saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen. On the other side, midfielder Jamal Musiala threatened. But his attempt was knocked down by the defence for a corner kick.
In the 35th minute, ter Stegen intervened again, but Adrien Rabiot’s dangerous shot went wide. After a rather uninspiring first half, it was a surprising 1-0 lead for the underdogs.
The Germans opened the second half just like the first. After a pass from Musiala, Kai Havertz confirmed their good form with a goal. Ousmane Dembelé did not threaten ter Stegen at all this time.
The Germans were clearly confident after two goals, but Robert Andrich’s shot from distance missed the target. The Leverkusen midfielder also shot in the 71st minute. This time his attempt was knocked down by the Blue defence for a corner kick.
The Germans enjoyed the end of the game, missing a few chances, but they didn’t have to be sorry. After getting two or more goals three times in a row, Germany kept France at bay, led by Mbappé. Didier Deschamps, on the other hand, has a lot to think about.
