Tomáš Souček, Vladimír Coufal and Matěj Vydra are the Czech players who played in the Premier League last season. At least one Czech could be added in the new season, with speculation about Jiri Pavlenko.
For Pavlenko, this season has been very unfortunate. Thanks to Werder Bremen’s poor form, he was relegated to the second German league at the end of the season, and he was also injured during the preparation for the Euros and missed the big tournament.
The former Ostrava and Slavia goalkeeper was considered one of the best goalkeepers the Bundesliga has to offer, so it’s no wonder he’s in demand after his relegation. A couple of weeks ago, Besiktas Istanbul was mentioned, now a Premier League team has come forward.
Burnley, a stable member of the Premier League in recent years, are interested in Pavlenko’s services. They are offering less than three million euros, which is a decent sum considering the upcoming end of the contract (1 year).
The question remains, why is Sean Dyche looking for a new goalkeeper? The first possibility is that the unshakable number one Nick Pope is on his way out.
For the record, Pope catches regularly for the England national team and is ranked in the elite goalkeeping top five in the league.
The second possibility relates to Pope’s injury that cost him the championship. It is unknown how long he will miss, so perhaps Dyche plans to bring Pavlenko in as a temporary replacement and then a quality number two.
