Portugal’s António Félix da Costa, the 2019/2020 Formula E champion, is changing his location for the upcoming season! He is moving from DS Techeetah to Porsche, where he will become Pascal Wehrlein’s new teammate. He thus replaces André Lotterer, whose future in the series is thus highly uncertain.
The 30-year-old native of Cascais in Portugal has been racing in Formula E since its inaugural season in 2014/2015. In the sixth edition of the series, he dominated the drivers’ standings and took the title by a relatively large margin of 71 points over Stoffel Vandoorne, the newly crowned world champion.
In his Formula E career, he has amassed a total of seven wins, 16 podium finishes and eight top grid positions in 96 starts.
“It’s like a dream come true. I’m really looking forward to winning races for Porsche,” commented da Costa on his move from DS Techeetah to the German giant. “I’ve been beaten by Porsche cars many times in my career, and not just in Formula E.
So I can see that Porsche is doing everything to win. I share the same ambition and I can’t wait to get closer to the team and start the third generation successfully.”
Da Costa succeeds André Lotterer at the German carmaker. The multiple 24 Hours of Le Mans winner recorded his best overall result of the 2019/2020 season, finishing eighth overall with 71 points.
It is not yet certain what further adventures await Lotterer in the world of motorsport. The German has spent a total of five years in Formula E. However, he has not yet confirmed whether he will remain in the championship or take on other challenges.
