Formula 3 champion has a confirmed place in F2! Martins will race for the French ART stable. How did he feel about the transfer?
One of the last open seats in Formula 2 was secured by the reigning F3 champion, Victor Martins. The French driver will drive for the team he won the championship with last year, ART Grand Prix.
One of the last open seats in Formula 2 was secured by the reigning F3 champion, Victor Martins. The French driver will drive for the team he won the championship with last year, ART Grand Prix.
The 21-year-old Frenchman will drive alongside his compatriot, Théo Pourchaire. Last year’s F2 runner-up, although two years younger, has already completed two full seasons in the series.
Martins was able to keep his cool at the end of the season, when five drivers were fighting for the championship, and with 139 points he became champion just five points ahead of Zane Maloney. Maloney will also race in Formula 2 this year, in the Carlin stable.
The Quincy-sous-Sénart native won two races in 2022, both of which were main races. Specifically, in Bahrain and Barcelona. He also scored four second places.
“The 2023 season is going to be exciting and motivating and after a successful year with ART Grand Prix I haven’t even thought about working with another team,” Martins commented on his move to RacingNews365.
“I can’t wait to discover the Formula 2 championship, which is challenging and competitive, with such an experienced and professional team. The post-season tests have removed any doubts I may have had in my mind about adapting to the new car as I felt comfortable and confident,” he explained.
“My goal is to do everything possible to win the title in my first season. With the ART Grand Prix I can have high ambitions,” added the Frenchman.
Eight more drivers have moved to F2
In addition to him, eight other drivers have moved up from Formula 3 this year. Among them is the Czech driver, Roman Stanek. We published a short video about Stanek’s transfer a few days ago, where we mentioned everything important.
That leaves one last spot open. It is still unknown who will replace the 2021 F3 champion Denis Hauger in the MP Motorsport team.
