The 2021 season is well underway, but as is customary, contracts and rosters for next year are already being worked out. And several things are already certain. The pending transfer of George Russell and the end of a legend. Alfa Romeo could have a completely new line-up.
Apparently most fans are already eagerly awaiting the confirmation of George Russell’s move to Mercedes. But then who will take his place? We’ll try to answer that and many other questions in this article.
MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS F1
One thing is absolutely certain. Lewis Hamilton will still have his place in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas stable for at least another year. After all, the British driver is under contract until 2023 and there is also speculation that he could work alongside Toto Wolff after his active career is over. Or even replace him directly.
However, the situation surrounding Valtteri Bottas is still to be confirmed. Indeed, it should be confirmed soon that Hamilton’s teammate next year will be Russell. The automatic suggestion is that perhaps Bottas will replace Russell at Williams.
But the reality will obviously be different – the latest speculation is that Bottas will take the place of the outgoing legend. Kimi Räikkönen is officially retiring. Negotiations are now at a stage where failure to confirm this speculation would come as a surprise. So will the Finnish driver defend the Alfa Romeo colours?
RED BULL RACING
We don’t expect any more reshuffles at Red Bull. The team’s clear-cut number one is Max Verstappen, who is not only unlikely to leave, but is likely to spend a large part of his career in the Red Bull Racing stable.
Sergio Pérez has also confirmed his stay with the team. Red Bull, like McLaren and Ferrari, no longer have to worry about the driver line-up.
MCLAREN MERCEDES & SCUDERIA FERRARI
As mentioned above, no changes can be expected for these two teams either. Lando Norris is the future face of McLaren and is already a fixture. Moreover, the twenty-one-year-old Briton signed a multi-year contract back in May. He will be part of the team until at least 2023. And his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, is also under contract until 2023.
As for Ferrari, they’re a bit better off with their contracts. Charles Leclerc has agreed to a contract that ensures he stays with the Italian stable until 2024. Carlos Sainz, on the other hand, is an ideal teammate to Leclerc and it’s not likely that Ferrari will abandon its original vision of returning to the limelight with the pair.
ALPINE F1, COGNIZANT ASTON MARTIN
Well, here we have two more stalwarts. At Alpine, they’re not even considering changing the Fernando Alonso – Esteban Ocon driver pairing at all. Alonso is a master of his craft and an experienced driver, while Ocon is proving his quality and is constantly improving. Aston Martin hasn’t allowed much debate so far.
We will almost certainly see the Sebastian Vettel – Lance Stroll line-up unchanged in the coming season.
SCUDERIA ALPHA TAURI
Pierre Gasly is the dominant leader of the team, no question about it. However, question marks hang over the number two seat. Yuki Cunoda hasn’t put in a very dazzling performance so far this year and is making a lot of unnecessary mistakes. The team’s decision will be made during the race weekend at Monza in Italy.
Who could possibly replace him? It’s hard to say, the most serious candidates for the Formula 1 seat next year are Alexander Albon and Nyck de Vries.
ALFA ROMEO RACING ORLEN
It is very likely that we will see a completely new racing duo in the Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen team. As everyone already knows, Kimi Räikkönen will say goodbye to his rich career at the end of this season. The legendary Finnish driver is expected to be replaced by Bottas, as mentioned at the beginning of this article.
The big news in any case is the departure of Antonio Giovinazzi. The Italian driver is being linked with a move to the WEC, where he is to be part of the hypercar project. According to Racing News, de Vries, the Formula E champion, is to take his place.
WILLIAMS RACING::
Russell’s departure to Mercedes is almost a certainty. So who will take his place? Christian Horner, the Red Bull Racing team boss, has made no secret of the fact that he is looking for a seat for Albon, who was part of Red Bull last year. According to current speculation, it is Albon who is closest to a transfer.
Nicholas Latifi, on the other hand, is expected to stay with the team, but although he is yet to be confirmed, we don’t expect any changes on this subject anyway.
HAAS F1 TEAM::
The last stable in the puzzle. It should be noted, Haas has invested nothing at all in the development of the monopost for this year, due to saving just for next season. All is yet to be confirmed, but it looks like we’ll see the same Mick Schumacher – Nikita Mazepin driver pairing at Haas next year.
