Martin Buday made his first appearance in the famous UFC organization last night, at an unnumbered tournament in Las Vegas he was facing a nasty opponent in the form of Chris Barnett. How did the Slovakian fighter fare and what are the reactions to the outcome of the fight?
The former Octagon champion has already won a contract in the UFC and on the night from Saturday to Sunday he was waiting for his first fight under the famous organization. His opponent was the feared Chris Barnett, who won many fans with his fighting style.
Martin Buday faced an interesting test, which he passed almost perfectly. He did not allow his opponent to do anything, on the contrary, he hit him himself or kept him on the mat, where he managed to control him perfectly.
It was like that in all the rounds, the problem came in the third one. Buday hit Barnett hard in the ribs with his knee, then he wanted to add more crushing blows, but his elbow hit his opponent in the back of the head, which meant the end of the fight.
This was an illegal punch and it was debated whether the Slovakian fighter would be disqualified or if the situation would be handled differently.
Fortunately for Buday, the punch to the back of the head was ruled unintentional and the fight was stopped with the winner to be determined by the scoring judges as the fight progressed. From there, the former Octagon fighter clearly had the upper hand, allowing him to rejoice.
“I feel great, I’m happy for the win, but not for the way it ended. I apologize to Chris. But other than that, things went according to plan. I was closing the distance, keeping the fight on the canvas. It was great to be here, I enjoyed it. Hopefully I’ll fight again as soon as possible,” Buday was heard after the fight.
However, his win, or the judges’ decision, did not please some fighters. For example, heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou believes Buday hit Barnett with an elbow to the back of the head on purpose. So did top-ten welterweight Jamahal Hill.
