Thomas Vermaelen started his first football steps in Belgium, where he was born. He made his professional debut at Ajax, with whom he once celebrated winning the league title.
In 2009, he moved to England, joining Arsenal London. He played five years under Arsene Wenger, even captaining the team. He won the FA Cup once with Arsenal.
In 2014, Thomas Vermaelen moved to Barcelona, where he also spent five years. During this period, he managed to win the league four times with his team and once with Barcelona he also dominated the Champions League.
After a successful engagement in Spain, he moved to Vissel Kobe in Japan in 2019, where he has now finished his career. In this team he met several former teammates such as Lukas Podolski, Andres Iniesta and David Villa.
He won a bronze medal with the Belgium team at the 2018 World Cup. Thomas Vermaelen can now build on this success as assistant coach of the Belgian national team.
