Karlos Vémola can definitely make a living
One of the most famous domestic MMA fighters Karlos Vémola is considered an exemplary professional in the world of martial arts. For his approach and promotion of his sport he is financially rewarded like few fighters operating on the domestic scene.
We recently informed you about an interview with Terminator, in which he described his former foreign experiences and his return back to the Czech Republic. Among other things, he described how important it is to be able to sell yourself to the fans in the local waters and promote not only yourself, but also the sport as a whole.
The sport has experienced an unprecedented boom in recent years. But it is still lagging behind football or hockey, both in terms of viewership and the money that goes into those sports.
Thus, comparisons with other sports and the level of health hazards that wrestlers undergo often come from the mouths of fighters. Of course, the fighters’ salaries are also a source of great uproar, with the aforementioned reasons for demanding better pay conditions.
The Terminator offered a comparison of domestic MMA with football or hockey
“It is clear to me that our sport cannot exist without us trying to draw attention to ourselves,” Vémola told iSport.cz. “For example, football or hockey have been completely established here over the years,” he offered a comparison with the leading sports here.
“They are big traditional sports that do not need to be promoted in any significant way,” he said. “As for MMA, the fighters are quite visible, but we could still count on one hand those who make a professional living and don’t have to go to work,” he said.
He explained the motives that lead him to his often controversial behaviour
“There are hundreds of footballers you would not even recognise on the street, and they earn hundreds of thousands a month, ” he said of footballers. ” They don’t have to put on a show and make a big show to get noticed by sponsors,” he said.
“This is what I’m trying to fight for my sport, I’m not just doing it for myself,” he explained of his often controversial behaviour. “I want MMA to have a future in the Czech Republic,” he said.
“We need to have guys who will be pros and togrow other top stars like Jirka Procházka, we need to have facilities, gyms, a union, an organization,” he described. “And if we don’t shout it out, we will never have it,” he added.
