Football quality speaks for Slavia, Krmencik could fulfil Škoda’s role, but he is not doing well, Necid said before Feyenoord

He is eleven goals short of the League Cannonballers’ Club, having scored the bulk of his eighty-nine league goals in a Slavia jersey. How does striker Tomáš Nedic see the double match between Sšice and Feyenoord in the Europa League quarter-finals?

Slavia have taken a thorny path to the top eight teams of the newly formed competition. They only secured promotion from a difficult group in the last round, when they drew 1-1 at Union Berlin and went on from second place with eight points.

In the spring, it confirmed its long-term strength in the play-offs, knocking out Fenerbahce after two 3:2 wins and beating Linz 7:5 on aggregate. The only one of the five opponents that Slavia has not beaten even once in the Conference League is Feyenoord.

“Of course, I’m rooting for Slavia and I wish them success. But also the football qualities speak for it. The teams met in the regular group, where the results were more in Feyenoord’s favour (1:2 and 2:2), but it was nice, watchable football. Now Slavia will be better prepared for their opponents and can handle the double match,” Tomáš Necid told Aktálně.cz.

In the first half, Feyenoord had ten chances, converted two of them and Slavia only managed to reduce the score to 1:2. Jindřich Trpišovský’s charges led for a long time at home, but in the end they drew 1:1.

The composition of the current team is significantly different than in the autumn. The goal scorers Nicolae Stancio and Jan Kuchta have been replaced by Yira Sor and Ondrej Lingr, while Maksym Talovjerov, who joined from České Budějovice in the winter, is getting some space in the midfield.

“They know each other. However, the teams are so mature that they are able to come to each match with different tactics, they don’t have to repeat anything from previous matches. Slavia has changed the squad quite a lot against these matches, interesting players have come in. For example, Yira Sor can be a very important figure, Feyenoord doesn’t know him,” continued the Bohemians striker.

In the spring part of the EKL, the Red and Whites are driven by Sor. His speed makes the opponent’s defences grind, he scored two goals and assisted once for Fenerbahce, and even scored four goals (3+1) against Linz. Now he will face a much better defence.

Since Milan Škoda’s departure, Slavia has been looking for a typical hammer, i.e. a big striker to put on the field in an unfavourable situation. Michael Krmenčík was counted on to do just that, but he failed to make a proper impact.

“It would have been good if he was like that. I don’t know what condition Michael Krmencik is in. He would have filled the role in full form. But now he is not doing so well. That’s why Slavia relies more on quick counterattacks, which is good for them in the Europa League,” Necid added.
