After another title fight at UFC 283 in Brazil, Glover Teixeira ended up in the hospital, but did not suffer serious injuries.
Glover Teixeira is not from this planet
Glover Teixeira showed the huge heart of a warrior at the ongoing UFC 283 tournament, where he got another title opportunity this time in front of his home crowd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Unfortunately though, he was no match for the younger Jamahal Hill and ended his storied career after a crazy war.
He was originally scheduled to face Jiri Prochazka in a rematch. After the two had their best fight of the year last year in Singapore, they agreed to rematch at the end of the year, but a serious shoulder injury to the Moravian samurai gave the Brazilian veteran a new opponent.
The 43-year-old Teixeira was the young American’s biggest challenge of his life so far, but he handled it admirably.
Teixeira absorbed an incredible 232 significant punches during the fight and lost the bout on points. Even at the start of the second round, it looked like the fight wouldn’t last long. But the experienced Brazilian showed superhuman toughness and miraculously survived all five rounds.
In the last round he even took his opponent to the ground, but he had no strength left to finish his opponent, who went on to take a unanimous decision victory. Glover was decently battered after the fight and in an emotional moment, he decided to call it a career.
Miraculously, he survived five rounds but suffered no serious injuries
After the fight, the UFC veteran was rushed to the hospital to have his injuries sustained during the frantic fight examined. But the fighter’s manager Jorge Guimarães reassured fans that he only suffered superficial injuries during the 25-minute war.
“He has a broken nose, but he’s going to get that checked out when he gets back to Connecticut, ” Guimarães told MMA Fighting . They kept him in the hospital for a while for observation, but the treatment there was amazing.”
Footage from the hospital, where the acclaimed veteran is unrecognizable, has been circulating social media. But as his manager said, he is fine, which is the most important thing. Teixeira will now turn his attention to training his charges, and middleweight champion Alex Pereira in particular is his biggest iron in the fire.
Fans experienced another Brazilian nightmare of a night in the main prelims of the gala. In a historic tetralogy with Brandon Moreno, champion Deiveson Figueiredo was unable to make the fourth round.
The doctor stopped the fight due to the Brazilian’s eye being closed after a punch landed by the Mexican champion. Figueiredo, however, does not seem to suffer any serious consequences and escaped from the fight with a broken nose and superficial injuries.
