Manchester United will very soon officially announce the arrival of a new signing in 20-year-old striker Rasmus Hojlund. His price tag, with all bonuses, is expected to be in excess of €70 million.
Despite interest from other European clubs, led by PSG, the Danish striker eventually opted for Manchester United. A transfer that may be a big question mark for many.
Hojlund may not be that well known to the general public, so read on for a selection of five pieces of information that may give you a little insight into the Danish footballer.
Great record for the national team
In the six games he has played for the senior national team, he has managed to score six goals and holds a record of scoring a goal per game.
The Danish national team is in third place in the European Championship qualification table, thanks to the hat trick he scored in the Finnish net.
Atalanta’s profit
In the case of the Italian team, this is a great deal, which they have done a lot of in the past. Atalanta Bergamo brought in the Danish marksman last year for around 17 million euros. So they can wash their hands of him after his impressive season.
If the total transfer amount is more than 70 million euros, it would be an annual profit of more than 50 million euros.
His brothers also play football
Rasmus is not the only one in the family who is active in football. His twin brothers, Emil and Oscar, play for FC Copenhagen. However, at the age of 18, they are still gaining experience and waiting for a bigger breakthrough in the team.
Emil, who is also a striker, played his first senior game last season. Oscar plays as a central midfielder and also got his first minutes last season.
He has not scored a league goal in Denmark
During his time in Copenhagen, where he grew up playing football, he failed to score a single league goal in two years. It should be mentioned that Hojlund was not one of the starting line-up players at his young age, and he picked up starts from the bench.
He got the most minutes during the 2020/2021 season against Bröndby, and that was the entire half. However, he was taken off the field right from the start of the second half.
His performances in the Conference League were the exact opposite. He made five appearances for Copenhagen during the same season.
Professional debut at 17
Rasmus Hojlund will wear the jersey of the fourth team during his professional career. That’s a good number considering his age. He played his first professional game for Copenhagen at the age of seventeen against Aarhus.
This was followed by a move to Sturm Graz in Austria, from where he travelled to Italy after just one year.
