Saturday evening and Sunday morning offered several interesting moments in combat sports. Tournaments were organized by UFC, PFL and KSW, all three organizations had Czech representatives. In addition, the heavyweight championship of the world was fought for. However, the fastest ending of a fight came in Poland, where a record fell.
Lucie Pudilova made a successful return to the UFC, Martina Jindrova fell to Kayla Harrison in the PFL semi-finals and Dominik Humburger scored another win at KSW 73. But there was more going on Saturday night.
Kamaru Usman lost his UFC belt and was knocked out for the first time in his career. Oleksandr Usyk defended his world heavyweight boxing title for a change. And in KSW, the record for the fastest time to end a fight fell.
The undefeated Bohdan Gnidko (8::0) took on Damian Piwowarczyk (5::2) right after Humburger’s win and went into the fight as the favorite. It was going to be an interesting match. But there was no indication that the record would be rewritten.
But it did. Both fighters high-fived each other right at the start and after five minutes it was over. Gnidko gets another win and remains undefeated. No fight in KSW has ended faster. The previous record was 11 seconds.
And it’s not just in KSW that the record for ending a match quickly is now at 5 seconds. It’s the same in the UFC, where Jorge Masvidal managed to do the same, finishing Ben Askren with a memorable jumping knee.
In the Octagon, for example, Pavel Salchak holds the record. He finished his friend Patrik Grunner in 9 seconds.
