The first team to reveal the shape of the new monopost for the upcoming season is the Uralkali Haas F1 Team.
However, this unveiling has so far only taken the form of images posted on the team’s official Twitter account. Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin will therefore drive this car in the 2022 season.
However, there is a much bigger question than just the colouring over their performance in Formula 1. Can this team under Guenther Steiner recover and be competitive?
Despite the considerable money that the American stable is collecting from its main sponsor, and despite the fact that all last year they have been concentrating their efforts primarily on developing a car for 2022, it seems that Haas will not see any significant improvement.
Indeed, this fact was recently confirmed by Steiner, who doesn’t expect any miraculous performances, but hopes for midfield in time.
“We are entering a whole new era and the introduction of the budget cap will also do its part. The starting field should converge. The big teams will still have an advantage initially, but in two or three years’ time the situation in F1 should stabilise and the forces should be equal,” Steiner told Racing News in a recent interview.
“In 2018, without a big budget and without big resources, we finished fifth in the Constructors’ Cup. We’ve always had to work with what we have in the team. So why can’t we go back to better results in 2022,” he explains.
The important and positive news for Haas is that Ferrari, who supply the engines to the American stable, had a very solid power unit upgrade, but Haas did not use it due to lack of funds.
But that should change this year, plus Haas no longer uses Dallara people, according to Steiner. The team finally has its own people, plus some staff from Ferrari who were moved to Haas because of the budget cap situation.
So the American stable is starting to do a bit better in terms of various internal matters as well. However, this team still remains one of the biggest puzzles of the upcoming season. Steiner believes that the team has made nice progress in terms of monoposto development. But will it be enough?
