Fine for the Scots! FIFA punished them for inappropriate behaviour of fans in the match against Israel
FIFA has once again handed out fines for inappropriate fan behaviour. This time it was the Scots who got the verdict, as their supporters were not exactly exemplary in their national team’s match against Israel.
FIFA has once again handed out fines for inappropriate fan behaviour. This time it was the Scots who got the verdict, as their supporters were not exactly exemplary in their national team’s match against Israel.
The Scottish national team played Israel on 9 October in a World Cup qualifier. The match was hosted at the famous Hampden Park shrine.
The home team managed to overcome their opponents and won 3:2. The match was watched by a 100% full stadium.
But the fans were not very disciplined. Like their English neighbours at the summer Euros, they booed the national anthem.
But that wasn’t all. There were several Palestinian flags and pro-Palestinian banners in the stands, obviously aimed at insulting Israel.
FIFA has already issued a bill to the Scottish federation for their inappropriate behaviour. The Scots must pay a fine of over £8,000. This is to be converted into a sum of nearly £240,000.
