Patrik Schick is having the season of his life. He has already scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga and is also scoring for the national team. Schick was supposed to be a key player for the national team in the barrage against Sweden in March, but now he is in danger due to injury.

The weekend game against Mainz was a great start. Leverkusen took a 1:0 lead in the 35th minute, with none other than Patrik Schick scoring. However, in the 48th minute the Czech striker had to substitute due to injury and the home side eventually turned the game around to 3:2.

However, Schick’s absence is much worse news. The league’s second top scorer underwent an MRI which showed a tear in his calf muscle. The injury was self-inflicted after a change of sides without any fault on the part of the opponent.

“Unfortunately, it was confirmed that Patrik Schick caused a tear in his left calf in Friday’s game. Hewill be out of action for several weeks, ” read the club’s official statement. Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Völler subsequently added that he will be absent for at least three weeks.

Jaroslav Šilhavy, coach of the Czech national team, also received the news with great displeasure. The national team will face an extremely important barrage against Sweden on 24 March.

Playing with Schick and without him is a huge difference for the Czech national team. The coaches and fans will hope that the 26-year-old goal scorer will recover in time.

“I am in contact with Patrik. Of course it’s unpleasant news before the barrage, but I believe that he will heal his injury and we will be able to count on him,” Šilhavy told the media.
