Václav Hladký may be having the season of his life. He reached it at the age of 33. The Moravian goalkeeper is playing in the second English league in the newcomer’s jersey, but he is fighting for promotion to the Premier League. Moreover, he has earned the interest of a famous big club.
The native of Brno writes a very interesting story. He made his way to our top league in the jersey of Zbrojovka, from where he moved to Liberec, where he played more of a number two role. It was only at the end of his engagement in the north of Bohemia that he won the number one position and with it a transfer abroad.
In particular, he went to the Scottish team St. Mirren, in whose jersey he played in the top Scottish league. He made a great name for himself in Scotland. He was linked with a move to Rangers, but that never materialised. Instead, after a year and a half, he moved to Salford in England.
He was number one there, but it was League 4. After a year, Václav Hladký moved to the third league to the traditional Ipswich Town, where he met his compatriot Tomáš Holý. Unfortunately, the transfer meant an uncertain position. Or rather, a certain but unwanted one. Suddenly he found himself in the number two role.
But that didn’t mean he wasn’t catching at all. He just didn’t catch as much as he probably would have liked. He spent two seasons as a number two, and only celebrated his promotion to the Championship as a number two. However, he waited for his opportunity and it paid off.
Before the start of the second English league, his rival Christian Walton was injured and the club was faced with what to do next. Václav Hladký was given his chance and he took it brilliantly. Great catching, great footwork. Everything clicked perfectly and Ipswich, as a newcomer, are fighting for promotion to the Premier League in their first season in the Championship.
Will Václav Hladky go to Scotland?
It’s no wonder Václav Hladký’s performances have earned him the interest of bigger clubs. He even came close to the engagement of a lifetime. In the media, his name has become associated with the famous Celtic.
After all, the Moravian native deserves it for his 9 clean sheets in 26 league games. How does he perceive the interest? He doesn’t attach too much importance to it. So far.
“When you are in a good position, playing well in the Championship and the team is also doing well, it is something that other clubs are naturally interested in. I think anyone in this team could make it anywhere else,” Football Scotland quotes Hladky as saying modestly.
“It’s nice. It’s great to hear and read that. But I’ll continue my performances, I want to push myself even more. I believe there is still a lot to work on. But it’s great to be in this position. But now I’m focusing on the next game. I don’t want to think too far ahead,” added Václav Hladký.
