No one has had such a huge impact on football as Pelé. He won the World Cup three times in his career with Brazil, in 1958, 1962 and 1970. His individual awards include one Ballon d’Or and two Ballon d’Or.
He also holds the record for the most goals scored in football history, with a total of 1,281 goals. His achievements and stellar career have taken him to the very top of the football world.
FIFA World President Gianni Infantino arrived in Brazil for the iconic player’s funeral.
“We will ask every country in the world to name one of its football stadiums after Pelé.”
As early as April 2021, Rio de Janeiro wanted to name the famous Maracanã stadium after Pelé. Unfortunately, this was cancelled due to the opposition of the state governor.
Pelé’s coffin was placed at the Vila Belmiro stadium in Santos on Monday. The home ground of the club where he spent virtually his entire career.
