Although there were more interesting games in terms of the quality of the teams, some eyes were on the Feyenoord vs Celtic match. An interesting match did not offer us a large number of goals, but the referee had to draw a red card on two occasions.
Feyenoord’s starting line-up was not missing Dávid Hancko, only Ondřej Lingr, who recently arrived from Prague Slavia, and Slovakian youngster Leo Sauer were on the bench.
The first excitement came shortly before the first half hour when the home side demanded a penalty kick after an opponent’s hand. However, the referee did not award a penalty after checking the video and the game was tied.
As the first half drew to a close, a surprise came. Calvin Stengs took a great shot from a direct kick, hitting the wall from inside the box and goalkeeper Joe Hart was not completely clear.
Shortly after returning to the pitch, Celtic also claimed a penalty, but this time the referee was uncompromising. After an hour of play, things started to get serious on the pitch.
In the 64th minute Gustaf Lagerbielke hit his hand in the face of the opponent and got a second yellow card, so he had to take a shower. He also caused a penalty kick, which Igor Paixao did not convert.
A few minutes later, another Celtic player went to the showers, this time it was Thiago Holm who indiscriminately drove into his opponent. Two minutes later Feyenoord increased the score, but the VAR system called the goal off for offside.
But the home fans were happy for a second time. Substitute Alireza Jahanbakhsh shot over everything in his path. Ondřej Lingr, who came on in the 67th minute, also had a hand in the goal.
Luka Ivanušec was injured at the end of the match. But back to this match, the match ended 2:0, although Lingr scored in the end, but his goal was called back after consultation with the VAR system.
