A return to its roots – this is how the presentation of the new Ferrari monoposto for the 2022 season could be interpreted, as the Italian Maranello stable has returned to the traditional racing red colour, which is truly a joy to behold.
On Thursday 17 February, the Italian stable revealed the shape of the new car for the upcoming season. It also becomes the seventh team to unveil its new colour combination, after Haas, Red Bull, Aston Martin, McLaren, Alpha Tauri and Williams.
Following the departure of long-time main sponsor Philip Morris and its Mission Winnow brand, Ferrari has switched to the popular and traditional “racing red”, with additional black elements added to the overall design.
The Ferrari F1-75 monoposto also features a logo, which the Italian manufacturer is using to celebrate seventy-five years since the launch of the first Ferrari production car.
Defending the Ferrari colours next season will of course be Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. In particular, the Spanish driver scored three podium finishes last year, while the team’s current team leader, Monaco’s Leclerc, only stood on the podium once.
In 2021, Sainz also surpassed Leclerc in the final drivers’ championship standings and was the best driver from the so-called “rest of the world” – with 164.5 points, he was fifth, with Leclerc seventh, five and a half points behind him.
“This is an important day for us. I have to admit that I am personally very excited because this car is the product of our efforts, dedication and passion. It is a credit to a large group of people who have invested absolutely everything in this car,” Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto told F1.
“We have a very good team of people here who have invested all their skills in the team on the road to success and I am very proud of them. We have met this challenge with an innovative approach because, in addition to the requirements of the new technical regulations, we believe we have had to take on this difficult task with an open mind,” he concluded.
