Ferencváros made it through to the third preliminary round via two double matches. First, they knocked out Kosovo’s Pristina, then they took on Lithuania’s Zalgiris Vilnius. However, both teams are qualitatively on the level of Czech clubs from the second half of the table.
For Slavia, Wednesday’s match will be the first in this season’s European Cups. In the Fortuna Liga, it is doing well so far, despite the loss of its mainstays, winning both opening matches, first in Zlín 1:0 and then in Teplice 3:1.
In addition to several local players, the Hungarian champion’s squad includes Slovak technician Robert Mak and former Sparta player Eldar Civic, who assisted two goals in four qualification matches.
Oscar Dorley is undoubtedly dragging Slavia in the beginning of the year, the skilful all-rounder has already three goal assists to his credit. Ivan Schranz and Nicolae Stanciu have also put in impressive performances, while Taras Kacharaba’s form has also gone up.
Slavia did not get a number of interesting players on the roster. The injured Bořil will not play, as well as van Buren, Madsen or Ekpai.
Ferencváros has won all its cup matches by at least two goals so far and maintains an average of 2.75 goals per game.
Slavia is a defensive specialist, they have only scored once in the league so far and their goalkeeper Ondrej Kolář kept the most clean sheets last year and the year before.
Given Slavia’s traditionally cautious entries into cups, I think the score will be tied at halftime.
