Ferdinand: Messi stopped watching Garnacha because he says he’s a Ronaldo fan
The rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is the biggest in football history. Every fan has sided with one side or the other, and according to legendary defender Rio Ferdinand, the rivalry is even felt between the players themselves.

Ronaldo or Messi? This is a question that has resonated in football circles for 20 years. Little fans have been picking a side since childhood, there are not many football enthusiasts who are indifferent to this rivalry.
There was also pressure from the clubs. Kevin Prince-Boateng recently admitted that he was forced to say Messi was better than Ronaldo at Barcelona, even though he himself thought otherwise.
At the moment, it doesn’t sit well in Argentina that national team player Alejandro Garnacho has publicly admitted that his idol is Cristiano Ronaldo. Moreover, he adds that he thinks he is the best player of all time.
And allegedly, even Messi himself does not like it. “A friend of mine told me that Messi has stopped following Garnacha because he keeps saying he is a Ronaldo fan and he is the best in history while he is in the Argentina national team,” Ferdinand said on the FiveUK podcast.
Garnacho is a hot topic at the moment after scoring one of the goals of the year at Everton at the weekend. He put in a scissor-kick to the centre like his idol and, like the Portuguese, celebrated the goal with a typical ‘siu’ celebration.
Choosing between Ronaldo and Messi is not easy, both are absolute phenomena of the sport. It is hard to say whether there will ever be anyone better than the Portuguese-Argentine duo.
Either way, fans should enjoy being able to witness the days when both of these giants were running around football pitches. One day, we will all remember these beautiful moments and their rivalry.
