Félix quickly charmed the owner of Chelsea Boehly. Will he buy him out in the summer?
João Félix has only played 148 minutes for Chelsea so far, but it seems he has done everything. He’s scored a goal, got a red card, put in a decent performance, zigged and zagged. The Portuguese has reportedly charmed owner Todd Boehly, who will be looking to bring him in permanently in the summer.
Boehly showed in the winter which direction he wants to go in the transfer market. He’s not buying big stars with flashy names, he’s focusing on young, talented football players who have the potential to become stars yet.
This is evidenced by the purchase of Mudryk, Enzo, Madueke, Gusto, Santos, Badiashile and others. Félix has only arrived on loan so far, but he is doing everything he can to ensure he doesn’t have to return to Civítas Metropolitano.
Agent Jorge Mendes, who has Enzo among the winter reinforcements in his stable besides Félix, has a great relationship with Boehly. Together, according to the Relevo newspaper, they are already working to bring the Portuguese offensive footballer over from Atlético Madrid to Chelsea permanently in June.
Boehly is reportedly impressed with Félix’s abilities, although the 23-year-old dribbler has played just 148 minutes. But reaching a deal may not be easy.
Atlético Madrid were asking for 130-140 million crowns for Félix in the winter. In the summer, the figure could drop and the Colchoneros could reportedly get 100 million crowns. And as we saw in the winter, that’s no problem for Chelsea.
Felix is playing for his own future. He doesn’t want to return to Madrid, his relationship with coach Diego Simeone irrevocably damaged.
In the Champions League, he will have the opportunity to show why Chelsea should buy him out and give him his, typical for this winter, long-term contract. The Blues face Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday at 9pm.
