Felix? It’s logical that he’s angry when he has to get up at 8 instead of 11 and gets such a burden, defends Atlético Madrid president

João Félix is back at Atlético Madrid. After a six-month loan spell at Chelsea, he had to return to Spain as the Blues’ new coach Mauricio Pochettino did not want the skilful Portuguese. Moreover, the Colchoneros president had to defend Félix from criticism.

Félix is a much-watched figure. After he had a disagreement with coach Diego Simeone last season and angrily threw a bottle on the bench, his every move is being watched.

He made it clear in the winter that he wanted to leave Atlético, only for no club to pay the amount the Rojiblancos were asking for. So he at least took a six-month loan spell at Chelsea, but new coach Mauricio Pochettino didn’t want him in the squad, so he had to return to Madrid.

And there, he is once again under a lot of scrutiny. The first speculations surfaced when a photo of Félix arriving for the start of the preparation appeared. Some fans didn’t like the Portuguese’s expression and thought it meant that Félix didn’t want to be at Atlético.

Another controversial moment was caused when Félix threw his distinguished player to the ground after training. Speculation began if he was angry, which journalists also asked club president Enrique Cerezo about at the press conference.

“When someone’s holiday is over and suddenly they have to swallow these physical doses, it makes everyone angry. You have to get up at 8 instead of 11, I wouldn’t be happy about that either,” defended Félix to president Cerezo.

As for the player’s future, he wasn’t that specific. “We are happy to have a player of his quality. He is a player who is in demand all over the world. At the moment, until proven otherwise, he is an Atlético player for the next few seasons,” the Atlético Madrid president added.

However, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Colchoneros management is ready to sell Félix. Since Diego Simeone will continue on the bench and the relationship between the two sides is not ideal, there is no point in keeping Félix in the squad at any cost.
