Eight of the best tennis players of today are looking forward to the start of the ATP Finals. Novak Djokovic will undoubtedly challenge for the title. What milestones in the history of the prestigious event can he surpass? Who among his competitors has even managed to beat him this year?

The Nitto ATP Finals will start this Sunday and Novak Djokovic is not missing in the starting field. The world number one has celebrated six tournament triumphs this year, including three Grand Slams. Only the Wimbledon one was snatched from him by Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic lost the chance of a Grand Slam season, but he can make up for it at the ATP Finals. There’s a rewrite of the historical tables in the air.

Seventh triumph at the ATP Finals

Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras or even Boris Becker. All of them repeatedly triumphed at the final tournament of the tennis season. Even more successful in this respect are a pair of tennis legends.

Djokovic and Federer have won the ATP Finals six times. If the Serbian tennis player succeeds this year, he will become the leader of this statistic.

And the world No. 1 likes to break all records. At least the Serbian expressed himself in this sense after his successful triumph at the Masters in Paris.

Another record in the ATP Finals that Djokovic can break is his own. In his triumph here last year, he became the oldest winner at thirty-five, and he can push that further this year as well.

And there will be more challenges to come. Djokovic has the chance to defend his victory for the fourth time at the final event. Lendl and Federer have defended at the ATP Finals three times.

The variance of the first and last titles is also worth noting. Djoker became the champion among champions for the first time in 2008. Repeating this result after fifteen years would be rewriting the record again, and again his own.

Djokovic’s form

There is perhaps no doubt at this point. Djokovic is this year’s king. Yes, at times it looked like a rivalry with Alcaraz, but the Serbian tennis player has proven his quality and enters the final event as the clear number one.

There is no one at the ATP Finals who can legitimately trust Djokovic. In the first half of the season he was beaten by Medvedev and Rune.

Then he was beaten by Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. But since then, King Novak has not known the bitterness of defeat. And it wouldn’t be a big surprise if the world number one came through in this vein in Turin.

Conclusion

The starting list for this event is pretty packed. The ambitions of the host Jannik Sinner are definitely worth mentioning. Nevertheless, Djokovic remains the number one favourite.
