Fateful day: today is exactly nine years since Michael Schumacher’s skiing incident
Today, Thursday 29 December 2022, is exactly nine years since Michael Schumacher was injured while skiing in Meribel, France. Today, Thursday 29 December 2022, is exactly nine years since Michael Schumacher was injured while skiing in Meribel, France. Even after so many years, the wider public has almost no official information on his condition, leaving everyone to ask one crucial question? Will we ever see the F1 legend again?
It’s been nine years since the seven-time Formula One World Champion’s fatal accident. It should be noted, Schumacher has always loved skiing and as he has admitted several times, it was a way to relax after a tough F1 season.
But on 29 December 2013, the seasoned skier fell and hit his head on a rock. It was his helmet that saved his life.
Despite this, he suffered very serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Grenoble after the incident. There he was operated on and put into an artificial sleep state to reduce the swelling in his brain. Needless to say, fans of the queen of motorsport were anxiously awaiting news of his condition.
But to date, not much has been announced. In 2014, it was reported that Schumacher was no longer in a coma and had been rushed to the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.
In September of that year, Schumacher returned to his family home to continue his treatment. All fans of not only F1, but motorsport as a whole, can only assume what the detailed condition of this legend actually is.
Since almost no significant information has been made public since then. Except for the Netflix documentary, which everyone could see for themselves, and which probably showed the state of “Schumi”.
However, that’s not the most important thing. Objectively, we can say that it is good that the Schumacher family has almost no media coverage on this matter. After all, it was one of Michael’s wishes that one day he would simply want to get away from all the attention and pressure.
We miss him, but he’s still here
As we wrote above, Netflix released a documentary about Schumacher on September 15, 2021, which hinted a lot to fans. And it also provided statements from members of his family.
“Of course I miss Michael every day. But it’s not just me who misses him – my children, my family, his father, everyone around him. But he is still here. It’s different, but he’s here, and that’s what gives us strength, I find,” his wife Corinna said in the documentary.
“We do therapy, we do everything we can to make Michael better, to make him feel good and just to make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what happens, I’ll do everything I can to make sure that happens. We all will.
We try to carry on as a family the way Michael did and still does, and we live on. Privacy is privacy,” she added.
