In a recent interview, Lewis Hamilton revealed how he sees himself after his active career as a Formula 1 driver. With his own start-up projects, he really has a lot of opportunities, whether it’s in the fashion industry or various charities. So what can we expect from him after his career?
Last year Kimi Räikkönen ended his F1 career, this year Sebastian Vettel will also say goodbye to the queen of motorsport. Drivers of the previous and very successful generation are retiring and hanging up their racing gloves.
The Mercedes driver started his 16th season in Formula 1 this year and at 37 years old is the second oldest driver on the grid behind Fernando Alonso (41). Thus, given that drivers rarely continue their careers after 40, it is so unlikely that we will see both drivers in F1 for another few years.
Moreover, Hamilton has a contract with Mercedes until the end of the 2023 season and it is a big question whether he will extend it after that.
Although the seven-time world champion himself has stated that he is not thinking about retirement yet and Formula 1 still has something to offer, he has already hinted at what he would like to do after his career ends.
“I will always be connected to this sport and I will always follow it,” Hamilton said, as quoted by Racing News 365.
“I will always want to be positive with all the drivers that are out there, good or bad. And because I know how hard it can be to start, how it can suck or how negative people can be,” he explained.
Many other projects
Over the last few years, the British racer has become increasingly involved in various projects and business activities. But in addition to this, he is also involved in the fashion industry, has musical interests and has helped set up charities and foundations.
Hamilton has also opened a vegan burger restaurant, launched the X 44 Extreme E racing team and recently admitted to being part of a group of people who bought out the Denver Broncos American football team.
“I’m working on a lot of projects. I’ve built a really great team over the last five years that works with me to help bring ideas to things I’m passionate about, and that’s made a lot of projects possible.
A lot of people say they are entrepreneurs and I think of myself as a true entrepreneur. This is because I run a lot of business. I think I will focus on one or more of them when I finish my career,” he concluded.
