Faroe Islands’ best results: double defeat for the Greeks and a fresh scalp from the Nations League
The Czech national team has already won once this year. In March, the match in Moldova ended in a goalless draw, this time the national team is going to the soil of a similar dwarf. What have been the biggest wins for the Faroe Islands this century?

The Faroe Islands have never made it to a top event like the World Cup or the Euros. Traditionally, they have suffered debacles and tend to be the underdog of the qualifying group, for whom even a penultimate place is an achievement.
FAEROE ISLANDS vs. Turkey 2::1
The most recent success of the national team is linked to September last year. The Turks, already a certain qualifier for the B-group of the Nations League, arrived in the islands. Their coach brought in players from a wider squad and although the favourites had more possession of the ball, the home side won on shots on target 4: 3.
The Faroese triumph was decided by two goals between the 50th and 60th minutes. The result meant nothing to either team in the table, but it was history changing for the Atlantic selection. For the first time ever, they had not lost four games in a row.
FAEROE ISLANDS vs. Hungary 0::0
At first glance, a mere draw against the then weak Hungarians, but they were already on the rise. They had the Euro in their legs, where they hadn’t lost a single game in the group and only dropped out in the eighth round. And now they wanted to go to the World Cup.
The starting lineup was not without mainstays Balazs Dzsudzsak or rising star Peter Gulácsi, yet the Hungarians, like their opponents, only had two shots on goal. A goalless draw started the unsuccessful journey to promotion, while the Faroes celebrated.
Faroe Islands vs. Greece 2::1, 1::0
Greece failed to qualify for Euro 2016 at all after reaching the eighth round at the 2014 World Cup, winning just one of their ten matches. The Faroe Islands’ win in Greece was once again due to multiple shots on target by the underdog, with Andreas Samaris and Kostas Manolas not missing from the line-up.
In the rematch, the Greeks already knew they were unlikely to qualify for the Euros. The line-up with Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Konstantinos Mitroglio had cut themselves a serious embarrassment by losing for the second time.
