Barbora Krejcikova undoubtedly had a breakthrough year in singles. The twenty-five-year-old tennis player has improved her ranking in the WTA rankings by sixty places, thanks to which she is currently the fifth player in the world. In addition, she is also guaranteed to participate in the Champions Tournament.
Barbora Krejčíková finished 2020 at 65th place in the WTA ranking. The results from the start of the current season, when the native of Ivančice scored a maximum of two wins in a row, also corresponded to this.
The first major success came in March at a tournament in Dubai. The 25-year-old Czech player defeated Sakkari, Ostapenko and Teichmann and reached the final. However, she was not able to beat Muguruza.
Barbora Krejcikova also played the final in Strasbourg. This time she was able to celebrate the victory, as she defeated Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea after 6::3 and 6::3 sets. It was the first title for Krejcikova at WTA tournaments.
Then came what probably no tennis fan expected. Krejcikova won the French Open, the pinnacle of the clay court season. Moreover, she lost a set only three times during the entire Grand Slam.
The former world number one continued her great form in doubles. She won the tournament in Prague, reached the quarter-finals at the US Open and Cincinnati, and reached the eighth round at Wimbledon.
Thanks to these results, Krejcikova is ranked third in the 2021 rankings with 4,398 points. Only Ashleigh Barty and Aryna Sabalenka are better.
At the same time, Krejcikova will not miss her participation in the Tournament of Champions, which will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, from 10 November. There she will also play doubles together with Kateryna Siniakova.
We must not forget Karolina Pliskova, who will also be at the Tournament of Champions. The former world number one will play the final event of the season for the fifth time in her career, with her biggest success being the semi-final.
