The season is off to a fairytale start for the still 18-year-old Noskova. Last year she broke into the second 100 of the WTA rankings with a great 40:17 record and now it is clear that after the Adelaide tournament the Czech hope will move into the top 70.
The 2021 French Open junior champion started her winning streak in qualifying where she was one ball away from being eliminated by Russia’s Kalinskayova (58th). She then defeated another Russian, Anastasia Potapova (43rd), in two sets
In the main draw, she then recorded the biggest success of her career so far, beating a top-10 player for the first time in her life. After a very tough battle, she went down to Russia’s Daria Kasatkina (8th) in the third set.
In the eighth round it was already an easy job for coach Tomáš Krupa’s ward. The American Liu (49th) did not give Noskova much trouble and she managed to beat her in two sets.
The quarter-final match offered a long and exciting three-hour battle. The Czech comet was facing the former world number one, Viktoria Azarenka (26th).
However, she managed to respond with a break. She managed to do so at 3:4. But then she won the rest of the games and took the first set 6: 4.
In the second set, she was already leading 4: 2, but Azarenka worked hard and managed to take the game to a shortened game. The Belarusian was more successful and won the second set 6::7(3).
In the last deciding set, Azarenka’s serve was good, but it was Noskova who was much more confident in the exchanges, but she often made unnecessary mistakes in the exchanges.
At 5::6, Noskova even faced a match point, but she turned it away and was ready for the next tiebreak.
However, in very warm weather the Czech player managed to come back from the shortened game of the second set. She managed to keep her composure in the decisive moments and, with Barbora Krejcikova cheering in the stands, went on to win 7:6(6).
The semi-final match will start at midnight, where Noskova will face another heavyweight on the women’s circuit. Her opponent will be the current world number two, Tunisian Ons Jabeur (2nd).
