The Czech national football team fell in Switzerland and says goodbye to Division A of the Nations League. Many fans blame the dropout on coach Jaroslav Šilhavy, whose position was discussed by FAČR president Petr Fousek.

At the start of the Nations League, the Czech national football team defeated Switzerland and almost defeated Spain, which equalised in the last minute. But the euphoria did not last long.

The Czechs lost all their remaining matches and did not last long among the elite. The goal, which was set to stay, was not met, which is why many are calling for the dismissal of coach Jaroslav Šilhavy.

“I am not satisfied with the fact that the team has dropped to the B level of the Nations League, but other famous teams, led by England, have also dropped there. The relegation must also be evaluated in the context of the fact that we played against Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

My only real regret is the performance and result in the home game against Portugal. However, in the other games we showed that the team is competitive even against more famous opponents. The national team now faces the EURO 2024 qualification draw, which will take place on 9 October in Frankfurt, and we will go into it from the second performance basket.

Two teams from each group will advance directly, and our clear goal is to qualify for the European Championships in Germany. Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý and the entire implementation team have our confidence and support,” said Petr Fousek, president of the Czech Football Association, in a press release.

We cannot expect any change in the coaching position in the near future. The national team will return in November, when it will play friendly matches against Faroe Islands and Turkey.

These matches should also include several new faces that we could only see in the 11. No specific names have been mentioned, everything will depend on their performance in the coming weeks.
