Extension with PSG? Messi announces when he will return home to Barcelona
Lionel Messi is still negotiating a contract extension with PSG, and logically there is also speculation about a return to Barcelona. The Argentine captain himself has commented on this.
Lionel Messi is still negotiating a contract extension with PSG, and logically there is also speculation about a return to Barcelona. The Argentine captain himself has commented on this.
This is Messi’s second season at PSG and as much as the first one was very unsuccessful, the second one seems to be much better. In 17 games in Ligue 1, Messi has racked up a record of 9+10, adding another 4 goals and 4 assists in the Champions League.
But Messi’s contract at the Parc des Princes expires now in June. The 35-year-old footballer’s original plan was to play 2 years in Paris and leave for the MLS, but after winning the World Cup, he reportedly decided to extend his European adventure.
But at the moment, the contract extension is dragging on, with one source saying that it will be extended, and another saying that Messi will not stay at PSG, with information spilling from one side to the other.
And Barcelona? The latter is not in the game at the moment, as the club is drowning in big financial problems and has big salary cap issues. However, Messi considers the Catalan capital his home and would like to live there again.
“When I finish my career I will return to Barcelona, it’s my home,” Messi told Argentine daily Diario Olé. Barcelona would love to bring their legend back, but at the moment it is really unrealistic.
Lionel Messi was brought to Paris to help PSG finally win the Champions League. It didn’t work out in the first year, when PSG already fell out with Real Madrid in the eighth round, and Messi also missed a penalty.
In the second year it doesn’t look easy either, with the Parisians already facing Bayern Munich, one of the traditional favourites, in the eighth round.
