Slavia’s match at Rangers’ ground will be long remembered by many football fans. It was hard, sharp, vicious. Moreover, racism was supposed to have occurred, which was never officially proven. It was supposed to have been committed by Ondrej Kudel against Glen Kamara.
The incident was covered across the European sports media. The UK was clear whose side to take. No rivalry in sight. An example was set by the then captain of Celtic Glasgow, Rangers’ hated rivals.
Scott Brown came up to Kamara before the Glasgow derby, gave him a hug and shook his hand. In total, the whole of Celtic stood up for the Rangers player.
Brown’s gesture could have been appreciated. In fact, FIFA nominated him for a Fair Play award.
In addition to the now Aberdeen midfielder, coach Claudio Ranieri was nominated for his gesture of honour to the newly crowned Serie A champions, Inter Milan players.
Finally, the players and medical staff of the Danish national football team were nominated for their heroic response to Christian Eriksen’s collapse at the Euros. The Inter player lost consciousness and while the medics reacted swiftly to save Eriksen’s life, the players formed a circle around him to avoid the eyes of spectators and cameras.
