Excelsior vs. Den Haag: Preview and betting tips
The battle for promotion to the Eredivisie reaches its climax on Dutch turf, with Excelsior and Den Haag facing off in the last round of the play-offs. The opening game is on Tuesday, what to expect and what to bet on?
Excelsior finished in sixth place after the regular season. They reached the play-off final via Roda and Heracles, winning three of their four games by two or more goals. They are now one round away from advancing to the elite.
Tuesday’s opponent finished fourth before the extra time, after beating both Breda and FC Eindhoven. The traditional first league participant was relegated last year, but has won all its games in the play-offs so far and is on course for promotion.
Thijs Dalling is scoring in the home jersey, the twenty-one-year-old forward has scored thirty-five goals and assisted nine times. Teammate Reuven Niemeijer has scored nineteen times and assisted sixteen goals.
Thomas Verheydt shines on the away side, the experienced striker scored thirty-six times and assisted eight times. Talented offensive midfielder Sem Steijn was on the scoresheet for twenty-two goals, scoring sixteen and assisting on six.
Excelsior boasts a well-functioning attack, scoring at least one goal each time in the last seven games.
Den Haag, on the other hand, shines defensively, scoring more than once in only one of their last seven games.
Considering the away team’s form and experience in similar games, I think Den Haag will not lose.
