Crvena Zvezda Belgrade is fighting for the Champions League, but the first match at Maccabi Haifa did not go well. However, thanks to a goal by ex-Spartan Guélor Kanga, they can still think about qualifying for the group stage.

The Serbian big club won another title last season and is currently fighting to qualify for the Champions League. It is battling Maccabi Haifa in the last qualifying round and the first leg did not go to plan.

In the 18th minute, the Israeli side took the lead. However, Crvena Zvezda managed not only to equalise, but also to turn things around. In the 40th minute they were leading 2:1 and the former star of Prague Sparta had a hand in it.

The goal was scored by Guélor Kanga, who, as Czech fans know him, scored with a shot from the edge of the sixteen. This goal could be crucial for the whole double-header.

Maccabi won the match 3:2, which brings them closer to promotion. However, the second leg will be played in Belgrade, so they will have a big advantage in the form of home fans.

Moreover, Kanga is shining in the cups this season. He has already scored four goals across all competitions. In the Champions League qualifying rounds, he has scored twice in three matches. He could therefore play a key role in the rematch.
