On Friday, the next European championship will be officially launched. However, the Czech team will not play its first match until Monday. What did defender Tomáš Kalas say at Thursday’s press conference?
Tomáš Kalas was struggling with health problems during the preparatory camp, but he made it through the dress rehearsal with Albania and now he can slowly look forward to the upcoming start of the European Championship.
“I had a stiff muscle that loosened up and luckily it was in time. It would have been a risk against Italy, but against Albania it wasn’t risky anymore. I am in good health,” assured Kalas.
The Czech Republic will start the tournament on Monday against Scotland. The defender, who captains Bristol on the club scene, is aware of the importance of each duel.
“Each of the group matches will be crucial. Even considering that the third team in the group can advance. But definitely the first game can help a lot, having three points from that can help a lot with confidence, so it can be a key duel,” he is clear.
Kalas, however, has never been to the Euros. So he will want to enjoy his participation as much as possible, even though everything will not be rosy.
“It’s something I play football for. It would definitely be better if it was played in one country, where we would have a camp. But we have to adapt to that and we can be happy to be in a home environment,” he dismisses any excuses.
Jaroslav Šilhavy’s team will meet Scotland, England and Croatia in the group. “It’s a good draw, at least for me, because I feel almost at home. I know the players of our opponents, I can give advice to the others.”
According to the Olomouc native, no match will be easy. Not even the first one with Scotland, in which Kalas expects a lot of fights. It will be interesting to see how the Czech Republic will do.
