Everton on the threshold of a new era: the Friedkin Group takes a majority stake

Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group have announced that they have reached an agreement to sell a majority stake in Everton Football Club. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, including the Premier League, the Football Association and the Financial Conduct Authority.

Friedkin Group takes control of Everton

“We are delighted to have reached an agreement to take over this iconic football club. We are now focused on obtaining the necessary approvals to complete the transaction.

We look forward to bringing stability to the club and sharing our vision for its future, including the completion of Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock,” a Friedkin Group spokesperson said in a statement to Everton’s website.

Moshiri sells his stake in Everton

Moshiri, a British-Iranian billionaire, acquired his first stake (49.9%) in Everton in 2016. He increased his stake to 94.1% by 2022. Moshiri, a former Arsenal shareholder, had previously tried to find a buyer for his stake.

Negotiations with Miami-based investment fund 777 Partners failed in 2022 due to delays and failure to meet Premier League conditions.

Friedkin Group attempted to take over Everton back in June. But representatives of the company later broke off negotiations. Currently, both parties have announced that they have agreed to sell Moshiri’s stake and are now awaiting approval from the English authorities.

Everton’s new future

Everton are facing a challenging season. After last year’s fight for Premier League survival, the team has twice lost points for breaching profitability and sustainability rules.

Currently, The Toffees under Sean Dyche are in penultimate place in the table with just one point after five games.
