European Cup groups finished. How is the Czech coefficient?

The autumn matches in European competitions are over. This year, three clubs represented the Czech Republic in the European and European Conference League and fought for the league coefficient. Sparta and Slavia finally advanced to the spring European Conference League, but unfortunately Jablonec failed to win their match in Cluj and are out of Europe. How did this affect our coefficient and what is the future outlook?

The autumn matches in European competitions are over. This year, three clubs represented the Czech Republic in the European and European Conference League and fought for the league coefficient. Sparta and Slavia finally advanced to the spring European Conference League, but unfortunately Jablonec failed to win their match in Cluj and are out of Europe. How did this affect our coefficient and what is the future outlook?

The coefficient of each of the leagues is based on the points earned in the last five seasons. The Czech league is currently in 19th place with 26,400 points according to the UEFA ranking. We are 0.5 points short of the crucial 15th place, which currently belongs to Turkey and is the last place that guarantees participation for five teams in the European Cups. The fourteenth-placed Swiss, with 29.675, are a long way off.

Between the Czechs and the Turks, the Greeks (26,700), the Croats (26,650) and the Danes (26,575) are in the following order with minimal differences. Turkey even had one representative in the prestigious Champions League. Fortunately for the Czech coefficient, Istanbul’s Besiktas completely burned out in their group and finished without a point in the cups.

Galatasaray, on the other hand, dominated their difficult Europa League group with twelve points and thus advanced to the spring part. The last Turkish team in Europe was Fenerbahce, who earned six points in the Europa League group, which was enough to finish third and continue in the Europa Conference League.

Two clubs from Greece are also still in the game, having successfully made it through their respective groups. Olympiakos with Tomas Vaclik finished second in the Europa League group with nine points, while PAOK, on the other hand, advanced to the next stage of the Europa Conference League with eleven points.

Only one representative, however, who makes points for more clubs so far, has Croatia. Only Dinamo Zagreb have qualified for the European Cups, but they have been very successful in their European mission. In a difficult group, Dinamo managed to defend their second Europa League group qualification place with ten points.

The Danes still have the most representatives of our competitors. Although Sparta knocked out Brøndby in a direct duel yesterday, Randers have been imaginatively promoted instead of Jablonec. Besides Randers, Copenhagen and Midtjylland will also represent Denmark in the spring phase of the Conference Europa League.

So we will see what opponents the lot will assign to the Prague teams in the end. The differences are really minimal and it is hard to predict anything. Of course, it is in play that there will be direct coefficient duels. The Czech fan can at least be happy for the time being with the fact that the twentieth-ranked Cyprus no longer has any representative in the game and thus cannot attack our position.
