West Ham won their first ever Europa League match. Only one Czech player was involved, Vladimír Coufal and Alex Král remained on the bench. The 2-0 win was secured by goals from Michail Antonio and Declan Rice.
Patrik Schick played 23 minutes against Ferencváros. His teammates had to turn the game around, but in the end the home team won 2: 1 thanks to a goal by the talented Florian Wirtz.
Tomas Vaclik also had a successful start to the cup season. The Czech national team’s number one goalkeeper helped Olympiakos to win 2:1 against Antwerp in Belgium, with the decisive goal coming in the 87th minute.
Sparta drew 0:0 at Brondby, but how did the favourite from Lyon fare? The match at the Scottish Rangers FC was a good one, a 2:0 win sent them to the top of the group.
Surprising results include Lazio Rome’s 0:1 loss to Galatasaray Istanbul, Lokomotiv Moscow’s 1:1 draw with Marseille and Spartak Moscow’s 0:1 loss to Legia Warsaw on home soil.
The second round of the group stage will be played in two weeks.
