A rich Tuesday night offered nine games to close the September national team meeting. Nicolae Stanciu sent the Romanians close to advancing, while the Ukrainians fell short of Euro 2024 in Germany with a loss to Italy.
In Group A, clear results were born. Spain played the Cypriots at home, with five different scorers securing a 6-0 win, with four goals scored by substitutes. The Norwegians led the whole match against Georgia by two goals, the opponent reduced it to 1: 2 only in the setup.
The 100 percent Scots are still almost certain to qualify, the second-placed Spaniards are six points behind with a game to spare. The Norwegians are on seven points and are slowly forgetting about qualification because of their poor start to the qualification.
In Group C, on the other hand, the game was even. Ukraine fought to the last minutes for a point in Italy, eventually falling 1: 2, with all the goals coming in the first half. Macedonia struggled in Malta, winning only 2:0.
England is still leading with 13 points. Italy has a game in hand against all opponents and is on seven points. Ukraine and Macedonia are also tied with them, but Malta has already dropped out of the TOP 2.
In Group F, the promotion pair Belgium, Austria is probably set. The former gave Estonia a five at home, the latter eliminated Sweden 3:0. Both have a seven-point lead over the Swedes.
In Group I, Nicolae Stanciu led the Romanians to success. First he picked up a red card, then he missed a penalty, but in the 83rd minute his opening goal set up a 2: 0 triumph. The Swiss beat Andorra 3-0 and Israel beat Belarus 1-0 with a set-piece.
The Swiss continue to lead the group with 14 points, with the Romanians two points behind. Israel is another point behind in third place and the others will not be able to qualify. The key match in November will be between the Israelis and the Romanians.
