Euro money: the Czechs made as much money for the Football Association as Slavia did in the Europa League

It was not only experiences, fatigue or injuries that Czech footballers brought back from this year’s European Championship. They also earned approximately CZK 378 million for the whole tournament, which will go to the FAČR.
From this amount, which, by the way, is almost identical to the earnings of Prague Slavia from last season’s European Cup tour, the costs of the entire championship will be deducted. The remaining money will be divided between the association and the national team.
The total of CZK 378 million is made up of the bonus paid for just starting the tournament. All 24 participants received the same amount – 9.25 million euros, or almost a quarter of a billion crowns.
The remaining part of the national team’s earnings is made up of performance bonuses, which UEFA has cut by a total of €40 million compared to the original plan in view of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, a record €331 million (CZK 8.5 billion) will be distributed to the teams.
A 2-0 win against Scotland in the opening match earned the Czech Republic 1 million euros (25.6 million crowns), while a 1-1 draw against Croatia earned Šilhavy and co. half that. Advancing out of the group alone earned the FAČR 1.5 million euros (38.4 million crowns) and the victory over the Netherlands 2.5 million euros (64 million crowns).
By not reaching the semi-finals, on the other hand, the Czech team “lost” an even fatter bonus of 4 million euros (102.4 million crowns).
In order to reveal the full list of rewards at this year’s Euro, we will add that the losing finalist will be rewarded with another 5 million euros (130 million crowns) and the overall winner with 8 million euros (205 million crowns).
“After deducting the costs, this is divided between the national team and the association. Anaccounting of the Euros will be submitted to the executive committee, including that we will decide how to dispose of the money,” said Petr Fousek, the fresh FAČR president, on the national team’s fat earnings.
“It’s an achievement on all fronts that we are among the last eight teams in Europe,” he added.
