Euro is the highlight of my coaching career. I believe we will beat the Scots, says Šilhavý

The last time the Czech Republic managed to beat the Scots was in October 2010. Today, Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges will face their unpopular opponent in their first match at the Euro. The national coach believes in a successful start.

Today, Monday 14 June, at 15:00, the Czech Republic will take to the pitch for the first time at this European Championship. Their opponents will be Scotland.

Coach Jaroslav Šilhavý is positive ahead of the match. According to him, he is already clear about the line-up and believes that his charges will manage the match.

This will be the third time in less than a year that our team will play Scotland. It will be difficult to surprise our opponents in any way. It will also be interesting to see how Šilhavý will cope with the nervousness, which is now said to be greater than normal.

“It is proportional to what is ahead of us. We believe that the time we have passed has gradually brought results and we should capitalise on that and try to be successful at the tournament. It is a great honour and probably the highlight of my coaching career so far,” Šilhavý said.

According to the coach, this match against Scotland will be different from the preparatory ones. The match against Albania was better from our side. There were openings, but we showed them in time for the tournament. We will take a breath of the atmosphere and on Monday it will build up with the match itself.”

Scotland will now look stronger to Silhavy compared to their previous encounters. He says they are playing better and more purposeful football. So he expects an even match which will be decided by small things.

One of those little things may be standard situations, for which Šilhavy’s selection has been preparing. “I think it’s even. Both the opponent and we are dangerous from them, so it can play a role,” the national team coach concluded.
