Football fans are used to seeing a big tournament every two years, either the World Cup or the EURO. However, the four-year gap between each World or European Championship seems too long to FIFA. However, FIFA President Gianni Infantino would like to see the wait reduced to just two years.

The idea of pushing for the World Cup to be held every two years is not met with understanding. Indeed, this interesting idea has met with resistance in both Europe and South America.

‘There is resistance in Europe because every week there is a World Cup with leagues and the best players in the world, but that is not the case in the rest of the world. For the latter, it is just one month of the year and we have to find a way to really involve the whole world in football,” Infantino describes the current situation.

Gianni Infantino is right that there is a bit of a minor World Cup on the European continent. By that, of course, he means the Champions League. That’s why he thinks it’s only fair that the wait for the rest of the world for a major championship should be shortened to two years.

The FIFA president adds that this is not his idea. It is FIFA’s idea and its study, with up to 166 countries around the world asking for its providence.

Infantino himself thinks that so many world representatives will be in favour of this idea that the World Cup and eventually the European Championship will be increased.

No resistance is expected from representatives of the national football teams. However, the problem may be the European clubs playing at the highest level, who will not wish to burden their biggest stars too much. They would risk banning players from representing their countries. There could even be boycotts of such championships themselves.
