French Alpine driver Esteban Ocon has signed a contract for the next 3 seasons before the home Grand Prix. The former Force India (later Racing Point), Manor and Mercedes Junior Academy driver can continue his solid performances this season.

After the VC of Azerbaijan, where he had to retire due to technical problems, there was good news for the Frenchman. But who knows if there would even be talk of a new contract now if Renault (now Alpine – ed.) hadn’t snapped him up before the 2020 season.

Last year, Ocon finished 2nd in a frantic race on a modified circuit in Bahrain. So far this year, he has 12 championship points for 3 ninths and 1 seventh.

He hasn’t scored in the opening race yet, and finished last in the last VC for the reasons mentioned above. So far he is only a point behind his teammate Fernando Alonso.

He has only made one appearance in Formula 1 in the home race that follows on the calendar and had to retire. He would like to do better in the blue Alpine. He’s got a good chance of doing that.

The new contract also closed the possibility of Esteban Ocon in a Mercedes from next season. Theoretically, another junior from that stable, George Russell, who currently drives for Williams, could move there after this year.
