In the current football world, two names of young guns resonate the most – Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland. It kind of takes us back to the recent battles between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Still 23 years old, the Norwegian footballer, who only the season before last in the Bundesliga won bronze in the Borussia Dortmund jersey behind Robert Lewandowski and Czech goal scorer Patrik Schick, started to create one record after another after his transfer to Manchester City. The Premier League has thus gained players into its ranks who are reshaping it in their own image.

Champions League

Haaland became the fastest ever goalscorer to score 15 goals in the millionaire competition. In the 2022/23 season, he has already reached the 25-goal mark in a Citizens jersey, again the fastest of all as he needed only 20 games to do so.

He scored 5 goals in Manchester City’s 7:0 win against RB Leipzig in the eighth round. He equalled the Champions League record held by Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano. These three players were the only ones to score so many goals in a single match in the Champions League.

Bundesliga

In the 2020/21 season, he broke the Bundesliga record held until then by Uwe Seeler, who managed to score 23 goals in his first 25 matches. Whereas Haaland topped this record with 2 more goals.

A season later, at the age of 21 years, 4 months and 6 days, he became the youngest ever Bundesliga player to score 50 goals. With the lowest number of games played, he again managed to score 50.

Premier League

Immediately after his move to England, in the 2022/23 season, he started breaking one record after another. First, he recorded the 2 fastest hat-tricks in Premier League history, breaking the previous record by 14 games. In just 8 games played, he scored 3 hat-tricks, breaking the previous record of Michael Owen in 1998, who needed 48 games to do so.

He finished his first season in the Premier League with 36 league goals in 35 games. He broke another record of 34 goals scored in one season. Only Alan Shearer and Andy Cole have ever managed to do that. Of course, for this feat he won his first Golden Boot, the award for the top scorer in Europe.

Season 2023/24 by Haaland

Also in this season, he has already managed to score a hat-trick in the Premier League. And once again he set another record, this time reaching the 50 goals scored mark the fastest in just 48 games. He surpassed Andy Cole, who needed 17 more games to do it.

So here is a player who is pushing the boundaries of the impossible again, and it is only a matter of time before the name Haaland will be used instead of Messi and Ronaldo in no more than a decade.
