It is the biggest possible fight of the domestic MMA scene among Czech fighters. Karlos Vémola and Patrik Kincl will face each other in less than two months and things are heating up between the two men. How did the rivalry between the two come about that still resonates today?
They used to be friends. One video on social media changed everything
They used to be friends, but then things took a turn. In less than two months, we’ ll see the rematch that has been rocking the domestic MMA scene and fans have been waiting almost five years for. A battle of champions that could end a long-standing feud or open up other possibilities.
Karlos Vémola was the number one Czech MMA fighter in 2018. He was also the first Czech to fight in the most famous MMA organization in the world. After being fired from the UFC, he alternated fights in domestic and British organizations, where he picked up one success after another. Then in 2017, when he won a fight with Peter “Pino” Ondrus, he signed a long-term contract with the organization.
But after his next winning fight, he uploaded a video to his social media accounts that started a story that continues to run through the domestic MMA scene to this day. “I just got back from a meeting with XFN. And unlike Peshta and other similar dumbasses, I’m ready to constantly prove that I’m the Czech number one at any weight. 77, 84, 93, heavyweight, I don’t really care,” Vémola said at the time.
Kincl took Vémola’s reference to McGregor personally
The organization had a gala event scheduled for June 28, 2018 at Prague’s O2 Arena. Vémola said he would be at the scheduled event and didn’t care who the organization put in front of him, even though he named Viktor Pest in the video. Surprisingly, XFN welterweight champion Patrik Kincl reacted to the aforementioned video and said that he will fight Vémola.
Vemola then responded that it would be the biggest money fight of Kincl’s career. He also mentioned Conor McGregor’s famous “Red Panty Night ” statement about a possible fight with Rafael dos Anjos, calling a fight with the PPV broadcast legend simply money. Conor used the aforementioned statement to express that a fight with him is a celebration for any fighter and the biggest payday of their career.
This touched Patrick Kinceloe who was just planning his wedding to his wife and the fire was on the roof.
“I was a little bit upset, I thought we would resolve it a little bit more dignified without some personal attacks and getting on my family. You know very well that wrestlers have fixed contracts, I get the same money whether I go with you or with Franta from Horní Dolní, who never wrestled,” replied an irritated Kincl on his social media. He mentioned that if he was doing MMA for money, he would have stayed in Russia, where he fought in the ACB organization.
“Here’s an apology to Patrick Kincl, I really didn’t know you were getting married after that fight. That was really just me shooting from the hip and making a f***ing fool of myself. I apologize for the innuendo, because they really don’t interfere with family. I was just copying what Conor McGregor said,” Vemola rushed to apologize.
But Vémola countered that friends don’t challenge
“Speaking of challenging, I never challenged my friends,” the Terminator continued with a message to Kinclo. “I considered you a friend, and now I’m including you in the bunch. You’re gonna have a money fight with me and you’re gonna lie to people that the money is the same. You’ll never get the same money for me that you got before.”
Kincl accepted the apology and denied getting more money from the organization for Vemola, explaining his reasons for wanting to fight him. “Of course I still consider you a friend, it’s nothing personal. I just challenge my friends every day to something, for me it’s just a sport, a matter of the heart and I don’t do it for the money. ”
So the war of words has turned into a cage war
Kincl also mentioned the fact that XFN decided to make the fight at welterweight due to Vemola’s difficult drop from welterweight to welterweight. Karlos responded that he won’t really make weight in two months because of Kincl and demanded more time. He responded to the criticism from Kinclo and the fans by mentioning the welterweight more in reference to the fact if he were to make it back to the UFC he would not be fighting UFC welterweight stars.
Kincl also addressed the issue of a possible run in the UFC. He was offered a fight with Neil Magny by the most famous MMA organization in the world, but ultimately chose to fight Vemola. As reasons he chose the fact that it was a three-week short notice and he didn’t give himself much of a chance with an opponent from the UFC’s top ten.
Thus, the door for their mutual fight opened and the trashtalk continued at the press conference. But more on that, the fight itself, and the rest of their story next time.
