Bukyao Saka has risen above all in the last two seasons, when he was one of the indispensable players of the Gunners and became Arsenal’s Player of the Year twice in a row. He has also built on his performances at national team level.
During the year, he racked up nine starts for England, in which he managed to score three times. He was also Player of the Match in the 4-0 home win over Andorra.
For his performances he was awarded the fans’ award for the best English player of the year. In the poll, he beat second-placed Declan Rice of West Ham and England captain Harry Kane, who came third.
The trophy was presented to the 21-year-old by young footballers during a press conference. “I really didn’t expect this, it’s an honour. I am very happy, I can’t even put it into words, ” Saka did not hide his surprise at receiving the award.
When asked what it was like to play for England, he replied, “It ‘s really special. There are many footballers who play for other clubs and it is difficult to get selected for your country. It’s a great honour to play for the national team.”
Saka made history by being the first Arsenal player to receive the award since 2003, the year it began. Will it be the young midfielder who will be the driving force behind the England national team at the upcoming World Cup?
