England winner of the EURO? We shouldn’t be ashamed to say we can win it, says defender Trippier
The EURO is fast approaching and there are several candidates to win it. One of them is England, whose experienced defender Kieran Trippier will lead his team as captain in the preparations and has decided to make a strong statement. He is not afraid to talk about the fact that he and his teammates can lift the trophy above their heads.

England is taken as the cradle of football, but success at the biggest international events has consistently eluded it. It last took gold at the 1966 World Cup at home and has been waiting for success ever since.
Perhaps now is the time. The EURO in Germany caught the players in fine form and it is no coincidence that coach Gareth Southgate’s charges are considered one of the top candidates for gold.
After all, the team fell to Italy on penalty kicks at the last tournament. Will success come? Experienced defender Kieran Trippier, who will be captain in the upcoming match, believes so.
“I’ve said it many times, we shouldn’t be ashamed to say we can win it,” said the Newcastle defender, who has played for Atlético Madrid, Tottenham and Burnley in the past.
“We don’t say it in an arrogant way. We have a great team, a great coach, a great staff. We’ve been very close several times in the last few years, now it’s just about making that final step.
The most important thing is the cohesion we have in the team. It’s unbelievable, probably the best I’ve ever been a part of, so we’re all looking forward to it,” the interim captain, who is filling in for the injured Harry Kane, added at the press conference.
England play a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina today and have a dress rehearsal against Iceland on Friday. They will then face Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia at the EURO.
